Facts for staying safe on the water

  • Stay on your side of the buoys!

  • Travel in a counter-clockwise direction around the lake.

  • Always carry good quality personal flotatation devises (PFDs) on boats with enough for all passengers.

  • Make sure the PFD's are equipped with whistles.

  • Have spotters equipped with flags when towing people to alert other boaters to watch for people in the water.

  • Be a good neighbor! Remember people live here.

    • High wakes have knocked toddlers and the elderly off their docks.​

    • Keep your music to yourself, don't force your vibe on others.

  • Residents have binoculars and the police boat on speed-dial!

American lake is home to a US Junior Wakeboat National Champion. On sunny days, residents and members of the public choose American Lake for their sport because its depth and size.

  • To stay safe always WAKE RESPONSIBLY.

  • Always have a spotter who knows the hand signals

  • Make sure the rope is clear of the rider before you accelerate.

  • Never ski or ride near swimmers or obstacles

  • Make sure you know the risks and laws of the local waterway

  • Ride in control at speeds appropriate for the conditions.
